Sr Java Engineer, Data Quality and Machine Learning Zillow

We are big on type-safety, dependency injection, performance, constant refactoring in Eclipse, database schemas that work on MySQL and HBase, using others? frameworks when they?re good, and writing our own infrastructure when we can do better. Within weeks of starting you will be deploying your code directly to live EC2 servers so you can experiment, iterate, and expand your expertise as fast as possible.
We are looking for an experienced engineer to lead our data quality efforts. This role will combine natural language processing, neural networks, statistical analysis, and parallel job processing to classify and flag individual real estate listings on the Zillow Rental Network. In addition, this person will work with web developers to enhance our internal listing quality dashboard to make it efficient for humans to contribute feedback into the machine learning system.
Process millions of real estate listings as frequently as possible to identify interesting relationships
Index data in new ways using Lucene and our custom indexing platform
Create learning algorithms to classify and recommend houses and apartments
Collect and aggregate large volumes of site usage data to look for signals indicating users' favorite listings
Expose functionality via carefully planned APIs
Build a reputation management system to help promote our best landlords and brokers' listings
Desire to work in a team environment sharing best practices for libraries, version control, IDEs, testing strategies, etc.
Ability to think on behalf of HotPads users and the business, and communicate your vision for the product to the rest of the team
Proficiency in server side Java web development, and curiosity to learn the newest techniques and technologies
Energy to keep pace with our daily deployments and the multitude of changes to the code base happening constantly
BS in Computer Science or related
At least four years of formal Java experience
Experience with Hadoop, HBase, and related technologies a strong plus
Experience with version control and Linux command line required
