SUPPLIER QUALITY ENGINEER
Mt. Pleasant, PA
Summary: The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for the overall quality of material commodities used in the battery manufacturing process for Aquion Energy. This is a cross functional position where quality will be taking a leadership role in driving; supplier relations, quality/risk assessment and continuous improvement programs with suppliers. This position is highly analytical and will rely on the ability to collect, analyze and drive continuous improvement through data. It is essential this individual has an above average understanding of statistics, process control methodology and root cause corrective action methodology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, though other duties may be assigned:
Support supplier selection through the provision of a robust qualification processes.
Ensure product quality from suppliers and contract manufacturers meets company product quality specifications and objectives.
Develop and implement closed loop supplier corrective action plans and bring all related issues to closure.
Perform manufacturing process qualifications using standard statistical measuring techniques.
Monitor manufacturing process trends; identify and take corrective action prior to the production of nonconforming product
Validate and approve manufacturing process changes
Provide technical support to Supply Chain for second source, end of life component replacement, and cost reduction activities.
Work effectively with suppliers, purchasing and engineering in support of the implementation of supplier/engineering changes and new product introductions.
Establish comprehensive and meaningful metrics reporting to Management utilizing effective presentation skills and continuous improvement mindset.
Participate in the development of innovative solutions, approaches; methodologies that address present and future supply chain quality requirements.
Continuously improve the performance of the materials supply base by supporting the use of supplier management tools such as the supplier report card and commercial business reviews.
Key Competencies required:
Solid project management experience with the ability to develop strong support for change.
Experience managing supplier quality and working with suppliers for value creation.
High level of diplomacy and a demonstrated comfort level interacting with people at all levels within the company and external supplier organizations.
Ability to develop and build supplier management and data collection systems.
Understand the difference between ?in spec? and ?under control? processes.
Experience and hands on investigation capabilities in establishing root cause and corrective action related to product or process defects are
Demonstrated, practical experience in; statistical techniques, design of experiments, SPC, control plans
Self-driven, results-oriented, and motivated to work effectively without direct supervision.
Ability to drive action and improvement cross functionally within the company.
Strong written/oral communication skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
BA/BS degree in engineering with 5 years direct Supplier Quality experience.
Superior analytical skills are required to develop and work with process metrics and measurements.
High level proficiency with MS Excel is required.
Experience with statistical software packages such as; Minitab, JMP, Excel SPC etc.
OTHER DESIRED SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Familiar with common materials characterization techniques.
Familiarization with change management & qualification system requirements such as TS16949, Pharmaceutical processes etc.
Familiar with energy technologies and electrochemically functional devices.
Ability to work within a team/consensus environment. Function as part of a team through strong leadership and maintain good working relationships with other departments; Must be customer oriented.
Ability to function well under pressure. Organized and able to attain results on several projects simultaneously.
Willingness and ability to assume increased responsibility.
Flexible to adapt to changing requirements and priorities.
Action/results oriented; self-starter.
Experience with ISO9001 quality standards.
ISO 9001 lead auditor certification preferred.
International supplier experience is a plus.
Language Skills: Must be fluent in English and be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Certificates/Licenses: Six Sigma/Lean Certification/ISO Lead auditor desired
Position Location: Mt. Pleasant location (Supporting both Pittsburgh engineering and Mt. Pleasant manufacturing facilities.)
Travel Requirement: 25-40% Domestic and international
