Technical Support Specialist - Windows, MacOS (Level 1) Good Start Genetics
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED Good Start Genetics is searching for a full time, first shift, front-desk IT Support Professional to assist in caring for all aspects of our desktop infrastructure and general operations compute environments. This position reports to the Manager of High-Performance Computing and IT.
The ideal candidate will have successfully built a home network or managed enterprise-scale compute environments comprising heterogeneous computing activities. It is critical that the candidate demonstrates superb active listening skills. Previous experience handling both R&D/research environments and production clinical lab environments is a plus.
This role will include hands-on responsibility for monitoring and maintaining our software and hardware environment, which includes cutting edge Laboratory and Server equipment. The position is an extraordinary opportunity for a Technical Support Professional to acquire skills in the growing and fascinating biomedical/genetics domain.
Provide a single point of contact for end users to receive technical support and maintenance. Document all customer requests and ensure customer satisfaction through follow ups and regular updates.
Install, diagnose, repair, maintain, and upgrade PC hardware and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Troubleshoot desktop and network problem areas (in person, by telephone, or via email) in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user assistance where required.
Maintain system maintenance and activity logs, as well as the master service log (a regulatory requirement).
Design and document Standard Operating Procedures.
Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future desktop hardware needs.
Conduct research on products in support of procurement and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend products per due diligence guidelines.
Create Purchase Orders, procure, and inventory equipment and software.
Write technical specifications for purchase of PCs, desktop hardware, and related products.
Work collaboratively with scientists, computational biologists, software developers, and lab technicians, providing excellent customer care services.
Operate within the highest ethical standards and integrity in all aspects of the position.
Perform other duties as required by the Manager of IT.
BS in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, bioinformatics or related discipline.
A minimum of 3 years experience in commercial product environment, large research organization, or equivalent.
Superb customer service skills. Excellent listening skills and being an active listener are required.
Strong knowledge of Windows and Mac OS, as well as productivity application support, deployment, security updates, testing, and troubleshooting.
Knowledge of Excel and Word macros, Outlook and Apple Mail configurations, Adobe products, Ghost, network topologies, major browsers, Dell hardware, software installation, and good security practices.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to recognize patterns a must.
Excellent organizational and analytical/problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to handle multiple projects in a dynamic and fast-paced environment; Ability to respond to frequent pressure to meet deadlines when work speed and sustained accuracy are paramount.
Ability to take direction when necessary and incorporate directives effectively.
Solid work ethic and a positive attitude are a must.
Experience supporting in-house software developers, particularly in a Java environment, a strong plus; Experience supporting computational biologists or physicists a strong plus.
Knowledge of Windows Server administration/Active Directory, Oracle databases, and/or Network administration a plus.
Familiarity with HIPAA or working with Classified Information a plus.
