Placemark develops, implements, and supports wealth solutions, including Unified
Managed Account platforms for broker/dealers, registered investment advisors, banks,
and family offices. As the separate account industry?s leading independent overlay
portfolio manager, Placemark coordinates multiple investment vehicles such as
separately managed accounts, mutual funds, and ETFs into a single customized

Much of the company?s business originates with broker/dealer sponsors for whom
Placemark is acting as the overlay manager in the sponsor?s proprietary UMA program.
In addition, in 2010, Placemark developed and launched UMA Marketplace, an open
architecture UMA platform for independent advisors and managers seeking effective
distribution in the independent RIA market. UMA Marketplace (?UMAM?) is a key
element of Placemark?s growth plans for the next several years. Placemark believes
that the retail investment management industry is in the early stages of a period of
significant product innovation. Efficient and flexible advisor access to these new
products will be a key element of customer portfolio construction. Combined with the
continued trend towards advisor independence, Placemark has concluded that there is
a significant opportunity to deliver value by creating the most cost-effective means for
innovative new managers to build highly-productive relationships with independent
advisors. UMA Marketplace is Placemark?s response to this emerging opportunity;
linking advisors with managers in a highly flexible and cost-effective manner. The Vice President (Investment Advisor Solutions, western region) is one of two senior regional
sales professionals tasked with building UMAM relationships with the top 250 to 500
manager/advisors in the country. Both positions report directly to Placemark?s
Executive Vice President of Business Development an indication of how important these
roles are in facilitating the growth of the firm.
This position will entail the following key responsibilities:
? Participate in the ongoing development of the UMAM sales strategy.
? Use the capabilities within UMA Marketplace to craft solutions for large feebased managers / advisors seeking greater distribution, flexibility and operational
? Establish productive networking relationships with the sales teams of key
strategic partners, including product manufacturers, technology providers,
custodians, and service outsourcers.
? Assist in defining the evolving UMAM offering by providing critical market
feedback, personal perspective and strategic insight to the Placemark product
? Empower the Placemark business development team to succeed in building asset
sales with UMAM firms (both managers and advisors).
? Organize western territory and prioritize sales targets.
? Effectively manage travel and follow-up.
? Help develop required sales materials and resources.
? Negotiate agreements with new firms.
? Coordinate effective hand-offs to Placemark implementation teams.
? Provide regular feedback to advisor sales and product management teams.
? Prepare and manage pipeline reports to effectively communicate progress with
the rest of the organization.
? Meet regularly with strategic partners to review and refine coordinated sales
? Represent Placemark at various conferences and industry events.
? Meet administrative responsibilities by filing expense reports in a timely fashion.
CORE COMPETENCIES & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
A qualified candidate must have the following key skills and capabilities:
? Demonstrated success selling investment management products and services to
intermediary channel participants
? High level of knowledge of brokerage systems, custodial providers, product
manufacturers, technology providers, research firms and general fee-based
investment advisory matters.
? Deep proficiency and demonstrated excellence in consultative selling practices ? Effective territory management skills
? Ability to partner effectively with a internal and external partners
? Strong communication (both written and oral) & presentation skills
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES
? Ten years minimum experience in the investment advisory business
? Seven years minimum sales experience selling to institutional firms operating in
the intermediary advisory channels
o Preference to those who have worked with UMAs
? Proven ability to match capabilities with needs in a consultative sales situation
? Effective at providing market feedback to internal partners regarding needs and
opportunities in the marketplace
? Effective public speaking skills
? Professional attitude and appearance
? Experience / familiarity with implementing technology-based solutions
